LEGACY OF LIGHT

Scripture states that children are a heritage of the LORD (PSA 127:3), and as children of GOD, what is our heritage? What has the LORD bestowed upon us? The Gospel of salvation to begin with (2 COR 4:4; 2 TIM 1:10), the sealing of the Holy Spirit for another (EPH 1:13; 4:30) – all of the spiritual blessings in Christ are ours (EPH 1:3).

As children of GOD, ours is a “living hope” (1 PET 1:3) – for as long as Christ Himself is alive – and He is eternal!

Inasmuch as we understand this incredible heritage, which is based on the revelation of GOD’s Most Holy Word, the “Light” of that revelation is what we are ever and always thankful for!

All of our inheritance and the blessings of GOD, are granted in the Person of Christ Jesus.
We who follow Him as servants of The Servant of the Most High (PSA 35:27; ISA 53:11-12) are promised to rule and reign with Him in the world that is to come (MATT 18:1-4; 20:26-27; 23:11)!

EPHESIANS 5:8
For you were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Walk as children of light
.

We are to “walk” that is, to live our lives based on the light of GOD’s revelation.

Children are seen as offspring that resemble their parents in various ways. Thus as “children of light” (JOHN 12:36,46) there should be some kinship between the truth of GOD’s Word revealed, and the truth of GOD’s Word realized in our everyday lives.

Children can expect some inheritance from their parents – or in our case, the inheritance of the saints found in Christ through the Father (ROM 8:17; GAL 3:29).

And we want to share this light abundantly, not keep it all to ourselves. We greatly desire to bestow these blessings on the next generation as a legacy of light.

MATTHEW 5:14-16
14 "You are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hidden. 15 "Nor do they light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a lampstand, and it gives light to all who are in the house. 16 "Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven
.

ISAIAH 9:2
The people who walked in darkness have seen a great light; those who dwelt in the land of the shadow of death, upon them a light has shined
.

All of us have gone astray and followed our own way, which invariably leads to increasing darkness. We were once children of darkness and would have remained in that deplorable state, had not the LORD been merciful and intervened in all of our lives! He pierced the darkness that surrounded and penetrated us with His indomitable Light!

2 CORINTHIANS 4:6
For it is the God who commanded light to shine out of darkness, who has shone in our hearts to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ.

JOHN 1:4-5
4 In Him was life, and the life was the light of men. 5 And the light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not comprehend it.

“Comprehend” in the Greek refers to “seizing upon, to possess, apprehend” among other words. This is what the darkness cannot do regarding the Light of GOD. It’s just the same when you turn on a light in a dark room. The light chases away the dark, never the other way around.

The same sort of initiative and protocol we see elsewhere concerning the church:

MATTHEW 16:18
"And I also say to you that you are Peter, and on this rock I will build My church, and the gates of Hades shall not prevail against it.

When was the last time you saw some gates attack someone? Gates in the old world, like walls, were defensive structures, designed to keep out attackers. We, the church of the living GOD are to be on the offensive when it comes to “the gates of [hell]”.

JOHN 8:12
Then Jesus spoke to them again, saying, "I am the light of the world. He who follows Me shall not walk in darkness but have the light of life.
